ATE PC Installation Guide
Software setup procedure for the Automated Test Equipment (ATE) station PC
Version 0.1 (draft) — August 24, 2026
1. Overview
This guide describes the software installation procedure for setting up a new ATE (Automated Test Equipment) station PC. It covers installation of National Instruments drivers and software, supporting utilities, the operator interface application, and development tools.
Note: This is a draft. Post-installation configuration steps (e.g. OpenVPN connection profile, software licensing/activation, operator interface configuration) have not yet been provided and are marked as TBD in Section 4. Please update this guide once those details are available.
2. Prerequisites
● Windows PC meeting the ATE station hardware requirements.
● Administrator access on the target PC.
● Active internet connection (for online installers) or the installer package copied locally.
● All installer files listed in Section 3, available in a single setup folder.
# Item Instructions
1 Local user account Log in with the local user .\ATEAdmin, password ATEteam653!@# — use this account to perform the installation.
Note: Handle this local account password as confidential; do not share this document outside the organization.
3. Software Installation
Run the installers in the order listed below. Unless otherwise noted, accept the default installation options and restart the PC if prompted before continuing to the next installer.
3.1 National Instruments Software
# Item File Name Instructions
1 NI-VISA ni-visa_25.8_online.exe NI-VISA provides the instrument communication drivers used by test equipment. Install with default components.
2 NI-DAQmx ni-daqmx_26.3_online.exe NI-DAQmx provides drivers for National Instruments data acquisition hardware. Install with default components.
3 NI TestStand ni-teststand-2023_23.8_online.exe NI TestStand is the test sequencing/execution engine used to run ATE test sequences. Install with default components.
Note: Install the NI software as a group before other applications, since NI TestStand may depend on NI-VISA and NI-DAQmx already being present.
3.2 Networking and Runtime Prerequisites
# Item File Name Instructions
1 OpenVPN OpenVPN-2.7.4-I001-amd64.msi This provides secure VPN connectivity for remote access to the ATE station. Install with default options.
2 Python python-3.12.0-amd64.exe Select “Add python.exe to PATH” during installation before clicking Install. Python is required by test scripts and supporting tools used on the ATE station.
3.3 Operator Interface Application
# Item File Name Instructions
1 Operator Interface mysetup.exe This installs the NoTraffic operator interface application used to run and monitor tests on the ATE station. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete installation.
3.4 Development Tools
# Item File Name Instructions
1 Visual Studio Code VSCodeUserSetup-x64-1.92.2.exe VS Code is used for viewing/editing test scripts and configuration files. Recommended: enable “Add to PATH” and “Register as an editor for supported file types” during setup.
4. Post-Installation Configuration (TBD)
The following configuration steps are required after all software above has been installed, but have not yet been documented. Fill in each subsection with the actual procedure.
4.1 OpenVPN Connection Setup
# Item Instructions
1 Place the connection profile Take the .ovpn file received from DevOps (e.g. vpn-data-sync-rds-XX-10.14.0.21.ovpn) and place it in C:\Program Files\OpenVPN\config-auto
2 Import the profile Open the OpenVPN GUI, then go to Import → Import file... and select the .ovpn file from config-auto.
Note: This .ovpn file is unique to a single PC — do not reuse the same file across multiple ATE stations.
● TBD: how to verify the VPN connects successfully.
4.2 NI TestStand Activation
After installation, activate NI TestStand using the following account and serial number:
Run the ni teststand application
Enter username and password
Click the drop down window and select serial number
Put the serial number in the development section
Click activate
NOTE:L success should be seeen
Close window
Once activated copy the cfg folder to the noted location in our notes (I will update this after our session here with Asi)

4.2a. Copy the two files (requirements.txt and UserInterface.xml) from https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1ktfzxMQ7My9dGir6rs5mPIv_K0w9gcV4, or from “c:\admin\software2” and copy / overwrite to “C:\ProgramData\National Instruments\TestStand 2023 (64-bit)\Cfg”
4.2b copy two files from: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1hfLUxF-NkPFcOP4ssL-iuPQAKDk59bgn?usp=sharing (local) or
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1hfLUxF-NkPFcOP4ssL-iuPQAKDk59bgn
NOTE: they should reside in c:\admin\software2
requirements.txt
UserInterface.xml

4.2c Activate NI Test Stand
# Item Instructions
1 Username corpit@notraffic.com
2 Password ^9Uwz#HjtO@xu3$u
3
Enter the Serial Number Enter D11L1071292 in the “Development” field of the activation dialog.
Note: Handle these credentials as confidential; do not share this document outside the organization.
4.3 Operator Interface Configuration
● TBD: initial configuration/login for the operator interface app, station ID setup, or config file paths.
In addition, configure NI TestStand as follows:
# Item Instructions
1 Open example sequence In the TestStand Sequence Editor, open C:\Users\Public\Documents\TestExe\exampleTemplate 2022.seq
2 Copy globals Copy the value of FileGlobals.Info to StationGlobals.Info.
4.4 Python Environment Setup
From the ATE folder, install the required Python packages by running:
pip install -r requirements.txt
NOTE: if there is a failure to run this command it could be a path issue: and the following needs to be run “[Environment]::SetEnvironmentVariable("Path", [Environment]::GetEnvironmentVariable("Path","Machine") + ";C:\Python312;C:\Python312\Scripts", "Machine")”

4.5 VS Code Configuration
● TBD: recommended extensions (e.g. Python extension) or workspace settings for this station.
5. Verification
● Confirm all applications launch without error (NI TestStand, operator interface, VS Code).
● Confirm OpenVPN can establish a connection (once Section 4.1 is completed).
● Run a sample/smoke test sequence on the ATE station to confirm end-to-end functionality.
6. Revision History
# Item Instructions
1 0.1 (draft) Initial draft generated from installer file list; post-install configuration steps pending input from station owner.
